Exploring the History and Challenge of Government-authorized English Textbooks in Japan and Mainland China

This paper examines the history of English textbooks and challenges they are facing in current EFL contexts Japan mainland China. In these countries, textbooks, for all other subjects, can only be used classrooms following governmental evaluation approval. The main set criteria textbook is provided by national curriculum, which also serves as a guideline compiling textbooks; it illustrates purpose objectives each subject, contains descriptions achievement levels grade, well suggestions teaching, assessing textbooks. effect, direct materialization curriculum implemented real classrooms, particularly dominated classes. starts discussing significance research before presenting historical review focus to delineate challenge underestimating use first language final section draws trajectory maps two countries explores new approach overcoming creating engaging activities that incorporate both student’s target classrooms.
